Starpharma’s novel dendrimer-based DEP® platform has broad commercial applicability in drug delivery by enhancing the therapeutic utility of drugs through improved solubility, efficacy and pharmacokinetics, reductions in certain toxicities (e.g. bone marrow toxicity) and creating a unique intellectual property position. The novel DEP® platform has shown reproducible advantages across a wide range of drug classes and can be utilised with both small molecule drugs, peptides and proteins.
Starpharma uses DEP® both in its own drug development pipeline and with partners. The most advanced DEP® product in Starpharma’s pipeline is DEP® docetaxel which is in Phase 2 clinical trials. Positive interim trial results continue to show a notable lack of bone marrow toxicity and encouraging efficacy signals, including stable disease and tumour shrinkage. A second clinical candidate, DEP® cabazitaxel, is in adaptive phase 1 / 2 trial design, which enables a seamless transition from phase 1 to phase 2, to explore efficacy as early as possible. Starpharma’s third candidate, DEP® irinotecan, is expected to enter the clinic mid-year.
